Whether you like your Christmas spent in a city, the rolling countryside with snowy mountain tops, or on a beach with the heat of the sun warming your back, well we’ve got some great festive getaways for you here…
Quebec City, Canada.
It’s almost guaranteed to snow, and give you that White Christmas that you are craving. Quebec is known for providing visitors with a great Christmas experience. There’s loads to do here, from shopping to specially organised Christmas events. The City is lavished with every Christmas decoration imaginable, with lots of trees and lights, supported by the locals who really do get in to the Christmas spirit.
The Caribbean.
Any of the islands really, with sun-kissed beaches, it’s the complete opposite to the snowy retreat of Quebec City. Not everyone celebrates Christmas, so this is the ideal retreat, getting away from the Christmas rush, turkey and trimmings.
Amsterdam, Netherlands.
One of a number of traditional Christmas destinations in Europe. Amsterdam offers traditional values in a modern setting. The city starts celebrating Christmas from mid-November and doesn’t actually stop until past the New Year. Even the infamous Red Light District goes all out with Christmas lights and décor. There’s loads to do, with events generously available for everyone to enjoy. It’s quite truly a magical destination full of holiday spirit.
San Francisco, California.
Thinking of spending Christmas in the US? Then if you’re looking for an American destination to enjoy then consider San Francisco. You won’t get the snow but you will get to enjoy many other holiday activities. Ice skating in the shopping district of Union Square, attending an annual Dickens Christmas fair and singing carols on a cable car ride are all opportunities that will be available for Christmas.
Austin, Texas.
Another great American destination to enjoy during Christmas is Austin. What’s really great here is that it’s on the Trail of Lights. You can take this little road trip to enjoy the best Christmas light displays in the entire US. Austin also offers numerous Christmas activities of its own to enjoy during your time in the city.
New York City.
If you want a US setting, but really can’t do without the snow you need to consider the Big Apple. It’s a great urban destination that offers famous experiences like the Macy’s Parade, the world’s tallest Christmas tree and live viewing of The Nutcracker. It’s also likely to snow (and you can easily travel to much snowier New England destinations as well).
Lapland, Finland.
If you really want to get in to the full swing of Christmas then Lapland is the place for you. You may know that Lapland is where Santa lives, at least that is the word on the grapevine, and there’s loads on offer. Get caught up in the magic of sleigh rides, seeing the reindeer and taking a tour of the toys being made by Santa’s helpers. Lapland makes for a unique family holiday that you can all enjoy at Christmas.
Bethlehem, Palestine.
This is where it all started, the birth place of Christ. So if you are more interested in the true meaning of Christmas, then take a trip to Bethlehem. Here you can enjoy more traditional values like attending midnight mass at St, Catherine’s Church or involve yourself in lots of other religious events that are on offer here too. Bethlehem is the place to visit to soak up traditional Christmas values.
Vienna, Austria.
Another top European destination, but very different to Amsterdam. Vienna offers the best Christmas markets, so your guaranteed to pick something great up to take back home. Skiing is also popular with lots of slopes to explore, as well as lots of traditional cabins and resorts to stay at. Christmas activities are plentiful with people, both locals and visitors, full of seasonal merriment.
Your Hometown.
Christmas, after all, is about spending time with family and friends and enjoying the festivities together and what better place to do this than your hometown. It’s the place where most of you will spend Christmas, and the setting we most come back to.
So, where will you be spending your Christmas and what’s your ideal or favourite Christmas destination? And don’t forget to take one of our World Phones with you so you can keep in touch with loved ones if you go away over the festive period.
